A lifelong advocate for Monroeville, Melvin brings decades of business leadership, civic involvement, and a deep commitment to the people of our city. After graduating from Auburn University in 1977, Melvin began his career with Harrigan Lumber Company, where he worked for over four decades before retiring in 2022. A man of faith, Melvin now attends Church of the Highlands, and he and his wife Gail were long-time members of First United Methodist Church of Monroeville, where he served in various leadership roles—including the Administrative Council, Staff-Parish Relations Committee, Finance Committee, and as Chairman of the Stewardship Committee. Melvin has always believed in giving back. In addition to his service on the City Council, he coached city league softball for six years and is a past president of the Monroeville Chamber of Commerce. He remains committed to helping Monroeville grow while preserving the values that make our community strong. “After living in Monroe County for more than 40 years, I’ve come to understand both our strengths and the areas where we can do better. I believe in open communication, teamwork, and transparency. I love Monroeville and will continue to listen, lead, and serve with integrity.” Melvin and his wife Gail Bryson Foukal have been married for over 40 years. They have three daughters—Marrilee (Rick) Davis of Daphne, Leslee Foukal, and Jenilee (Douglas) Merrell, both of Birmingham—and are proud grandparents to four wonderful grandchildren.
